BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH LEADS WORLD PREMIERE OF HOW TO LIVE ON EARTH AT ODEON LUXE LEICESTER SQUARE

23 June 2026

The must-see documentary kicks off London Climate Action Week ahead of its UK theatrical release on 26 June

On Monday, 22nd June, Odeon Luxe Leicester Square played host to the world premiere of How to Live on Earth, the ambitious feature documentary presented by Benedict Cumberbatch. The premiere, attended by Cumberbatch alongside contributors Xiye Bastida, Dan O'Neill, and Sam Kass, coincided with the start of London Climate Action Week and served as the film's first public screening ahead of its UK theatrical release on 26 June.

Directed by Fredi Devas (Planet Earth II & III, Seven Worlds One Planet) and Jonnie Hughes (David Attenborough: A Life on Our Planet, The Hunt) with music  by Hans Zimmer, Jacob Shea and Ho-Ling Tang, How to Live on Earth is billed, with a wink, as "the world's greatest how-to video" - an expansive, hopeful exploration of how humanity can build a safe and thriving future by working with nature, not against it.

The evening featured opening remarks from Jonnie Hughes, Executive Producer and Co-Founder of Open Planet Studios; Julia Marton-Lefèvre, Former Director General of the International Union of Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and Chair of the Villars Institute; Peter Seligmann, Founder of Conservation International and Nia Tero and Chair of Silvania; and Benedict Cumberbatch, Presenter and Narrator of How to Live on Earth

The World Premiere brought together influential names in film, conservation, business and finance, along with young changemakers and nature advocates. Presented by Open Planet Studios, the Villars Institute and Silvania, the premiere was supported by Google and YouTube, Standard Chartered, Conservation International, Fauna & Flora, Re:wild and The Nature Conservancy.

How to Live on Earth will be released in select UK cinemas on 26 June, distributed by Together Films, with previews running from 22 June. Following its theatrical run, the film will launch globally on YouTube later this year. Tickets and listings are available at howtoliveonearth.net.

How to Live on Earth is an Open Planet Studios production, in association with Villars Institute Foundation and Silvania. The film is directed by Fredi Devas, produced by Fredi Devas and Jonnie Hughes, and executive produced by Jonnie Hughes and Colin Butfield. Director of Photography is Stuart Dunn, with the main theme by Hans Zimmer and Jacob Shea for Bleeding Fingers Music, and an original score by Jacob Shea and Ho-Ling Tang.
